The 30th Court Service Unit serves the counties of Lee, Scott, Wise and the City of Norton by providing for the safety of the public and delivery of services to the community. The Unit promotes the use of the balanced approach in meeting the needs of the community, victims and offenders. The Unit uses incentives and graduated sanctions to reduce juvenile crime through immediate and effective intervention. Services provided by the Unit are probation supervision, juvenile intake, pre-court services, diversion, parole supervision, pre-dispositional social reports and post-dispositional social reports. In addition, staff on the Unit participate in a number of teams and committees provided by local community agencies.
The 30th District CSU participates in the 30th District Juvenile Drug Treatment Court. Through comprehensive treatment, education, rehabilitation programs and accountability, it is the goal of the 30th District Juvenile Drug Treatment Court to serve its communities and promote public safety by reducing the criminal recidivism rate of juveniles who commit crimes as a result of their alcohol and/or drug use.
VJCCCA programs offered in this Unit are by Highlands Detention Alternatives Program with the Appalachian Juvenile Commission. Services include electronic monitoring, intensive supervision, outreach detention and monitoring of community service work.
The 30th District CSU participates in a MOU with the Planning District One Behavioral Health Services for the Mental Health Initiative Funding. Planning District One Behavioral Health Services provides a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) to work 24 hours per week to provide services to juveniles referred by DJJ. Services Delivered are assessments, individual and family counseling, group counseling, relapse prevention counseling, educational group/brief motivational intervention, crisis intervention, substance abuse evaluations and treatment, SASSI assessments and trauma assessments.
For youth on probation and parole, court service unit staff have access to a variety of contracted services including assessments and evaluations, individual therapy, family therapy, substance abuse treatment, therapy for youth with sexualized behaviors, and life skills coaching.
