We serve the western Tidewater cities of Suffolk and Franklin and the counties of Isle of Wight and Southampton. VJCCCA services are purchased from a sole-source vendor, the Tidewater Youth Services Commission. The Western Tidewater Community Service Board is the primary provider of mental health services. Personnel in the unit actively participate in local community initiatives, to include Family Assessment and Planning Teams and Community Policy and Management Teams, and follow modern day "best practices" in providing supervision and services that are aimed at reducing recidivism among juvenile offenders.
For youth on probation and parole, court service unit staff have access to a variety of contracted services including assessments and evaluations, individual therapy, family therapy, substance abuse treatment, therapy for youth with sexualized behaviors, and life skills coaching. CSUs access these services through DJJ's contracted regional service coordinators. A directory of services available through DJJ's RSC Model is available at Evidence-Based Associates.
